Haggis shows are my happy place. Friday night, however, I had to work at it.
Kim & I left work at 3. I went to CVS then to her house. We packed up her car & headed for Albany. After being away the last 2 weekends, I was quite thankful that her hubby, Kevin, was driving. We arrived at her brother Rich's house around 6, then headed to Saratoga Springs for the evening. It was about a half hour away from his house.
I was literally feeling like the 5th wheel: Kevin & Kim, Rich & Shana, Me. They definitely didn't make me feel that way - that was ALL me! I was feeling fat and frumpy and single. The girls were in cute outfits & boots and I was wearing jeans & a tee shirt & sneakers. Hey, if I'm gonna be standing around and dancing on concrete, I choose to be comfortable. But I definitely felt under dressed next to those two. :/
We went to dinner at el Mexicano Restaurant. It was yummy. Huge plate of food for $14 and that included chips & salsa and a soft cheese taco before the entree and a banana chimichanga afterwards. Rumor has it that they also serve a shot of tequila at the end, but we weren't offered any. We decided that it was because we ordered water & Diet Pepsi and they figured that we just didn't drink. Whatevs. Tequila & Rachel es no bueno!
From there, Rich told Kevin to drive past the venue to see if there was parking nearby. Turns out the Putnam Den has it's own parking lot & there was a spot next to the [ETH] van. So we parked, then wandered for a little bit. Looks like there's a lot of dining/music spots in that part of Saratoga Springs. Rich took us to Gaffney's where we had a pre-show drink. About 8:45, we wandered back to Putnam Den and picked up our tickets for the show.
oh, btw, when I go to shows, I like to see people that I know. That didn't happen. There was one old drunk guy that we see at shows, but that was it. Thankfully, I met Jessa, the ETH merch girl and Bonnie, Jamie's gf/merch girl. I like making new friends. :)
Just after 9, the opening act took the stage. It was Jamie Kent from Northampton, MA. Jamie played the acoustic guitar & ukelele. Mike played the lap steel guitar (neat!) and Dan played the cajon drum (also neat!). They were excellent. Bonnie recommended that I purchase both of the cds. I'm not sorry. They are fab!
Enter the Haggis took the stage just after 10. It was a fantastic show - as always! But when they started playing *my* song, I had to remind myself that this is my song & I'm supposed to be loving it. I wasn't. So that's when I decided to enjoy the show. I'm glad cuz it was a good show. Trevor messed up on a couple of lines & Craig messed up something as well. Brian was giving both of them some really skeptical looks. It was amusing. Rich is a photographer & he got some really good pictures. Their 2-song encore was Balto & Lannigan's Ball. Love it when the close with that - good end to a good night! After shows, Kim & I always stick around & say hi to they guys, but the others wanted to get going. I did manage to get a quick chat in with Glenn...
I found this review of the show.
We headed back to Rich's for the night. He made us breakfast in the morning then we headed back home. Kim had to get back to watch the Dr Who special. I crashed for a bit, then went to Verizon with every intention of switching to pre-paid. Instead, I re-signed for another 2 years on their loyalty program & came home with an iPhone 4S for $1. I have a new toy! :D
